Matt's Best Defense has connected us with some really incredible people here at home and across the country. We've met wrestlers, moms of young grapplers, families training together and a slew of men and women training for their shot in MMA. They are very supportive of each other: they share techniques, they share tournament and fight information, and they share insights about products they use in their sport. Through that sharing, we met Jason "Hurtsmen" Showers.
Jason is an amateur MMA Fighter out of Xtreme Ambition MMA & Fitness in Endicott, New York. He started fighting in sixth grade after being bullied. The following year, Jason joined the wrestling team (Folk style, Greco Roman, freestyle). In 2006 he started boxing with the BBA (Binghamton Boxing Association) and he made it to the first round of the Upstate Golden Gloves.
After taking some time off to start a family with his wife, Kimberly, Jason was contacted in February 2016 and asked to fight in a kickboxing match. It had been 8 years since he had any training and had no experience in kickboxing. Ignoring those two obstacles, he fought at 205 lbs. Shortly after a second kickboxing match, Jason joined Xtreme Ambition MMA & Fitness. Training there since June 2016, he is being instructed by Marcos Ithier and Tammy Worrick with his focus on BJJ and kickboxing.
We love how many parents involved in MMA have their littles involved as well. Jason has two sons who love to train like daddy and his littlest has an unbelievable passion for MMA at just two years old. His wife has been his biggest supporter and wants her children to understand that daddy's time away is because he's fulfilling his dream to do what he loves to do.
Jason will get another chance to do just that on February 3, 2018 when he fights at 155lbs in Gladius 30 in Auburn, NY. This is going to be a night of fights you don't want to miss!!
Good luck, stay healthy and be fierce!
